International Training & Hyperbaric Medicine Foundations
Chi Mei University & Peru Hyperbaric Fellowships
Before 2011, Dr. Prashanth Varkey mastered the science of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) at Chi Mei University under Professor Niu Ko-Chi. To establish this technology in India, Dr. Varkey, Dr. Deepesh, and Mr. Jaison travelled to Peru to earn hyperbaric medicine fellowships and study HBO monoplace chamber operational design. Their pioneering efforts led to setting up the HBOT unit at Jubilee Mission Medical College, which was formally inaugurated by the Ambassador of Peru.
South India’s First Monoplace HBOT Chamber
Inaugurated by the Ambassador of Peru at JMMC & RI
Jubilee Mission Medical College marked a historic healthcare milestone in South India with the inauguration of its first Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Monoplace Chamber. The state-of-the-art facility was officially inaugurated by the Ambassador of Peru. Integrated into the burns and reconstructive surgery unit, it established a high-standard regional center for advanced healing and hyperbaric medicine.
APUHMS Leadership & Regional Expansion
Executive Directorship & Education Committee Leadership
In 2012, Dr. Prashanth Varkey joined the Asia Pacific Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (APUHMS), later serving as Executive Director representing India and Chairing its Education Committee. Building on Jubilee Mission’s pioneering HBOT unit, he advanced international standards, clinical education, and hyperbaric research across the Asia-Pacific region.
Multidisciplinary Hyperbaric Care & Safety
Anaesthesia Integration & Hyperbaric Society Certifications
The hyperbaric oxygen therapy team expanded significantly with the addition of Dr. Sebastian S. Valiaveedan and Dr. Sudha Muralidharan from the Department of Anaesthesia. After earning certification from the Hyperbaric Society of India, they streamlined clinical workflows and reinforced rigorous patient safety protocols. Driven by a commitment to medical excellence, the growing team pursued continuous education, skill upgrades, and advanced certifications, solidifying the unit's reputation as a high-standard center for safe hyperbaric treatment.
APUHMS Executive Leadership & Global Research
Executive Committee Appointment & International HBOT Presentations
In 2024, Dr. Pradeoth Mukundan Korambayil was appointed Executive Committee Member of the Asia Pacific Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (APUHMS). In that landmark conference, international recognition was received presenting on the Indian experience of HBOT, strengthening regional research and academic partnerships.
HBOCON National Research Showcase
Original Research on Soft-Tissue Reconstruction, Burns & Wound Healing
At the 2024 Hyperbaric Society of India conference (HBOCON), our hyperbaric oxygen therapy team showcased strong academic contributions, presenting approximately five original research papers. The presentations highlighted Jubilee Mission’s extensive clinical experience, covering innovative applications of HBOT as an adjunct in complex soft-tissue reconstruction, burn management, and advanced wound healing protocols. These studies underscored our ongoing commitment to evidence-based practice, scientific advancement, and expanding the therapeutic horizons of hyperbaric medicine in India.
State-of-the-Art Walk-In Multiplace HBOT Chamber
Expanding Advanced Hyperbaric Care in Thrissur
In 2025, Jubilee Mission Medical College and Research Institute reached a landmark milestone by inaugurating its state-of-the-art Multiplace Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Chamber. Expanding beyond their original monoplace setup, this walk-in multiplace facility allows multiple patients to undergo simultaneous treatment while enabling medical personnel to remain inside for real-time monitoring. This major technological upgrade significantly enhanced capacity for high-acuity patients, solidifying Jubilee Mission’s leadership in hyperbaric medicine and advanced wound healing.
APUHMS Directorship & Regional Leadership
Director & Executive Committee Member, Asia-Pacific Region
In 2026, Dr. Pradeoth Mukundan Korambayil achieved international recognition at the Asia Pacific Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (APUHMS) by presenting landmark research on complicated wound management using HBOT. Highlighting Jubilee Mission’s clinical expertise, his presentation earned widespread acclaim, resulting in his appointment as Director and Executive Committee Member for the Asia-Pacific region. This elevation further solidifies Jubilee Mission’s leadership role in shaping global standards and advancing hyperbaric medicine research.
